"Talk to Yourself as You Would Talk to Your Daughter"

How do you speak to yourself? Are you judgemental of your thighs? Are you angry at your skin? How many times have you looked at yourself in the mirror and thought "I wish I could change x about myself, then I will be happy"?
The truth is, there will always be something that we want to change about ourselves if we let that be our driving force. The best advice I have ever received is to talk to yourself as you would talk to your daughter. Would you tell your daughter that she just has to lose 20 lbs and only then she will be beautiful? Would you tell her that she needs to start eating salads and only salads so that she can be pretty like the other girls? No, you probably would not.
You would tell your daughter that she is enough just the way she is. You would tell her that society can be cruel, but she is a strong and powerful individual who is beautiful both inside and out. You would make it clear to her that beauty blossoms from within and the more she dwells on her so-called "imperfections", the more our flawed society wins.
Let this be a reminder to talk to yourself kindly. Look at yourself and remind yourself about the aspects of yourself that you love. These aspects and qualities can be anything at all. We all struggle. Even the people we perceive to have all of their shit together. Even the people we perceive to be the most beautiful women alive... We all have insecurities, but imagine if we spent the same amount of energy focusing on what we love about ourselves, rather than wasting our time analyzing what we hate.
When you feel negatively about yourself again, think "would I say this to my daughter?". I promise you, it will make you think twice.
